{Who doesn't want a job}

I have been a bit quiet lately and I apologise! I moved across continents last week and have settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. I am going to take a while to settle down but I am quickly enjoying the lifestyle!

Who knew I would have to find a new shoe and clothing size, cereal, brand of milk etc. But obviously the hardest thing is looking for a job.

I tried Craigslist, School Websites, Indeed, but in the end it's who you know that helps best when looking for a job. When I lived here last year for 3 months I made a couple friends. One of them is a Photographer and as soon as I got here I asked if her company needed any photographers. She said there wasn't anything but a day and a half later she called to say someone had quit. I applied for the job and got an interview the next day. It was such perfect timing! I am awaiting my second interview with the bosses boss ;)

So talk to as many people as possible about your situation because you never know what might happen!

{Bah Humbug it's Winter}

Winter is flapping it's cold crisp wings and even though I will be moving in to Summer in 12 days - I thought I would share some outfit ideas thanks to Google images.

I do like wearing bright colours but I am enjoying the neutrals for Winter time.

Keep warm this Winter!

{Train your brain much?}

 I found Lumosity when I 'googled' how to improve your memory. I wanted to better remember people's names, telephone numbers, and lists of grocery items etc.

I signed up (it's free) and every day (or however many times a week you like) you get memory games to play. It tracks your performance over these days and plots it on a small graph.

The games are short and there are only about 3 per day on the free version. The one on the left flashes patterns for you to remember- you then click a blank grid to match the pattern you saw. It starts small with a 3 by 3 grid and goes up each round.

In another game, you are a waitress/waitron and need to remember people's names and orders. You may play the same game the next week and you still need to remember their names for maximum points so it's training short and longer term memory.

Try it out here: http://www.lumosity.com/

{Lacrosse like a boss}

We took our hockey sticks to South Korea when we taught English last year. We met up with some South Africans (Saffas as they call them) to jam and we were surprised how few Koreans knew what sport we were playing. Anyway - USA is not too big on field hockey so I might have to take up Lacrosse. It is actually a mixture of field hockey, ice-hockey and polo ;) Check out the basic rules for Lacrosse - they say learning new things is awesome for your brain so read on!

The Basics!
Women’s lacrosse teams use netted sticks to carry, throw, and shoot a ball along a
field in an effort to score goals. A goal counts as one point and is scored when the
ball completely crosses the opposing goal line between the posts and under the
crossbar.

What's Needed?
Lacrosse stick, solid rubber ball, team uniform with kilt or shorts, gloves, takkies or
cleats, mouth guard, and protective eye- wear. Goalkeepers wear extra padding.

How Long Is A Game?
Generally, a game is divided into two twenty-five minute halves, with a ten-minute
break at halftime. Each half begins at the center circle with a “draw” between two
opposing players. Team captains flip a coin to choose playing sides and teams switch
sides at halftime. If a game ends with the score even, it is a tie. Some leagues may
decide the result of a tie by playing overtime periods of sudden death; the team
scoring first wins.

Positions
Two teams of twelve players are on the field at one time. There are no set
boundaries or perimeter lines on the playing field, therefore, no offside violations can
occur. Players thus cover the entire length of the field. In most leagues,
unlimited substitutions are allowed during the course of a game.

So...I just need all the gear then hopefully I'll play Lacrosse like a boss ;)

{Chocolate fridge bars/cake}

These are sooooooooo bad for you but oh my goodness they are a perfect snack size piece of heaven!!!

Ingredients:
Makes 15 squares / bars

250g butter
2 tablespoons best quality cocoa
1 egg – whisked
500g icing sugar – sieved
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Essence
1 x 150g packet Tennis Biscuits

Instructions:

Melt the butter in a medium pot over a medium heat. Whisk in the cocoa and turn off the heat. Gently & slowly whisk in the egg, then whisk in the icing sugar and vanilla essence. Crush the Tennis biscuits, or break them into the chocolate mix. You want a variety of sizes, but nothing bigger than about a R2.00 coin. Stir the crushed & broken biscuits into the chocolate mix then scrape the mix into a appropriate size dish that has been greased & lined with wax paper. Refrigerate overnight.
Cut the bars whilst still in the dish, then lift them out and take it easy! ;)
