{The Hunger Games}

I had never read a book or series before watching the movie until 'The Hunger Games'. Some friends in Korea lent me the 3 books and I devoured them in the shortest time before the movie came out.

I remember when Harry Potter came out , and the people that had read the books would say 'The movie was disappointing...the book was much better!", to which I would reply, "You snooty book nerd", behind their back obviously.

I have now become the subject of my criticism to my dismay. As much as I enjoyed the movie....wait for it....the book was much better. It didn't help that I finished it the week that we went to go and watch it, and so it was fresh in my mind. But obviously the movie can't capture the intensity of the bonding between Katniss and Pru, the mysterious connection between Katniss and Gail and the severity of the Games itself.

I did however love the characters they chose to play the roles! Peta was a little shorter than I imagined but I got over it! Please read these 3 books - they were amazing! I can't wait for the second movie to come out in November - "Catching Fire".

We use our cell phones more and more to take photo's but we never develop them do we?

Charlotte, North Carolina

This beautiful City is soon to be my home! I lived there last year for 3 months and was seduced by it's pretty parks, gorgeous greenways, neat neighborhoods and utterly-quaint uptown.

There are a few facts I have learned about Charlotte:
> It is the 17th largest American city
> There are 2 296 569 people in the metropolitan area
> It is the 2nd largest financial center after New York....yip NY
> It's home of the Carolina Panthers (American football), Charlotte Bobcats (Basketball),  NASCAR hall of fame, US National Whitewater Center, Billy Grayham Library, Carrowinds (Amusement park) and my mom!

I can't wait to make Charlotte my home!

{Butternut soup}

Got this recipe from my sister-in-law Kirsty...thanks!

 Ingredients

1 butternut

1 Onion

1 Orange

3 TBS flour

1 tsp Nutmeg

1 tsp curry powder

1 chicken stock in 3 cups boiling water

1 cup milk

Instructions

Fry onions in butter

Add cubed butternut and fry for 3 minutes

Add flour, curry powder and nutmeg

Add chicken stock in water and add milk, orange juice, and grate the orange peel

Simmer slowly for 15-20 minutes

Liquidize

Add salt and pepper to taste and tsp sugar

Add a dash of cream and sprinkle with chopped parsley

Then enjoy!

{Books i like}

I love Torey Hayden's novels about children. She is an Educational Psychologist herself and writes about the world and minds of such amazingly complex kids.

This book is about a boy's journey, with his psychologist and family, to the roots of his issues. It made me wonder what kind of parent I am *hopefully* going to be.

You should read it!

{Night Golf}

Have you heard of the phenomenon that is "Night golf"? Well, tonight at 6:00pm at Victoria Country Club in PMB, I am going to try and play golf in the dark.

The coolest thing has to be the golf balls that have LED sticks inside to make your ball "glow-in-the-dark". It will make finding my ball in the rough just that much easier!

Apparently they light up the fairways with glow-sticks so we can see where we are going. I haven't played there in ages so I count that as a disadvantage as I might not see the bunkers or pools of water with limited light.
